JUNE -"First Friday Art Walk"
Art Exhibit and Sale
June 6-30
Opening Reception
June 6 from 6-9pm

Northville, Michigan Sherrus Gallery of Fine Art in Northville launches a unique concept in fine art shopping at its June 6 First Friday Art Walk Event, “Artaissance – sherrus.ArtMyStyle.com – Live and Online With Mixed Media Artist Dana Harvey.” During the opening night wine and cheese reception on June 6 from 6 to 9 p.m., guests will have an opportunity to meet the nationally known mixed media artist and view her works through two venues at the gallery: an extensive floor exhibit and online at sherrus. ArtMyStyle.com -- an innovative, relatively new, fine art buying experience available to art aficionados around the world, 24/7.

“We were very pleased when one of our premier frame design companies, Larson-Juhl, invited us to participate as a select retailer in this phenomenal online gallery that features a whole new world for art lovers,” said Sherrus Gallery owner, Sherri Mewha. “While nothing can replace the traditional art gallery experience, there’s something to be said for pouring a glass of wine, collapsing in an easy chair, and shopping for art in the comfort of your own home.”

Curated by Larson-Juhl, sherrus.ArtMyStyle.com features Harvey’s work along with more than 100 artists, showcasing an exclusive collection of 2,000 plus limited reproduction giclee selections that represent a full complement of 18 genres of art including still life, Americana, modern, abstract, landscapes, objects, contemporary and nature. Other artists commissioned by Artaissance include Atlanta favorite Rodney White, Mary Margaret Briggs, David Tupper, and several artists with Northeastern roots like Kathy Kennedy, the late TL Lange, Maeve Harris, Soraya Chemnaly, Elizabeth Horning and Kathryn Heuzey.

After carefully selecting a prestigious repertoire of artists, Artaissance decided on the giclee technique for reproducing each fine art piece in the collection. Derived from the French word, “to spray,” giclees are vibrant, high-quality art reproductions that are nearly indiscernible from the original pieces. In addition to their affordability, giclee pieces can be customized to fit your walls while staying true to the original artist’s vision by keeping the size proportional.  Artaissance customers can also choose canvas or paper to suit their unique tastes. Each piece is embossed with the Artaissance chop mark to prove authenticity.

“When ordering online, customers have the added convenience of shipping a piece directly to their homes or to Sherrus Gallery, where our qualified frame designers will assist them with frame selection and style,” said Sara Marlowe, Gallery Director. “Sherrus is wireless, so guests can explore the online art buying experience for themselves on a laptop station we’ll have setup in the gallery during the opening reception.”

Guest artist Dana Harvey will also be available to sign any of her pieces purchased during opening night.  Harvey studied at the Glassell School of Art and the University of Houston where she studied figurative painting in watercolor, collage and all mediums.  Later, by accident,  Harvey discovered the beauty of encaustic painting and expanded her works to include a variety of subjects, like landscapes, finding them more often a more subtly effective as pretexts for human emotions. She is interested in finding appropriate compositions and palettes to stir particular feelings, using the calendar/grid format and more recently, the horizontal line, to evoke psychologically reassuring calm.  Harvey has shown over the years at the Chase Gallery for the Boston Art Dealers Association.

Sherrus Gallery of Fine Art continues to expand the scope of its contemporary fine art offerings fast making it a destination gallery for southeast Michigan art lovers.  Located in scenic downtown Northville only 35 minutes from Detroit, Sherrus Gallery features original oils, acrylics, sculpture and fine art glass created by local, national and international established and emerging artists.
